Teacher Subject Specialism Training - Maths

Our Teacher Subject Specialism Training (TSST) programme provides free, high quality Professional Development along with funding towards cover and travel costs.

The course is aimed at Secondary and FE teachers in numerate disciplines who are intending to teach some maths or are returning to teach maths and would like to refresh their subject knowledge. 

The aim of the programme is to:

  • Enhance your mathematical knowledge to give you confidence to teach Maths
  • Inspire your enthusiasm for Maths
  • Provide you with motivating activities and tasks for teaching Maths
    Enhance your pedagogical skills in teaching Maths

The programme consists of:

  • Eight face-to-face twilight pedagogy workshops delivered in Scarborough
  • An e-learning and online assessment facility from the CIMT at Plymouth University
  • Access to a 30 credit masters module ‘Teaching and Learning Mathematics through Problem Solving’
  • Mentor support during the programme; mentors will also conduct three lesson observations

For school teachers who meet the eligibility criteria this course is free charge. On successful completion of the course, participants will be eligible for a bursary towards cover and travel costs.
