Professional Development

Developing a Storying Culture

Supported by the Strategic School Improvement Fund

Aim:  To improve Early Years Outcomes by supporting language development, early literacy, metacognition and parental engagement.

Taking part in this project will enable you to:

  • Develop and celebrate a ‘storying’ culture with practitioners and parents that values oral accounts in a variety of contexts (e.g. role play, construction/block play, mark-making)
  • Develop practitioner and parent awareness of the value of oral narratives and how these and recorded representations can be shared as meaningful and relevant stories
  • Strengthen practitioner ability to utilise these strategies matched to the needs of individuals (with particular regard to disadvantaged individuals and groups)
  • Increase practitioner confidence in engaging parents in support of children’s learning at home.

What Next?

  1. Think about how you share your vision with your colleagues and parents? From story to policy – to sustain good practice in the future.
  2. How has the role of practitioner changed?
