Experience teaching with an internship

If you’re studying for a degree and interested in a career in teaching, an internship could help you to understand what it is really like in the classroom. You will get to experience a range of activities to help you get a feel for school life.

Scarborough Teaching Alliance offers undergraduates in their first, second or third year of a STEM or languages degree, the opportunity to take part in our paid internship scheme (£300 per week) to experience teaching Maths, Physics, Computing, Chemistry, MFL at secondary school level.

The internships are co-ordinated through our partnership secondary schools along the Yorkshire Coast, Ryedale and York area.  We will work with you to find a placement that suits you.

Starting in June and running into July, the internship is a 3-week programme.

This programme will give you the opportunity to work along side Coast and Vale Learning Trust's outstanding leaders, teachers and mentors.

With the support from teaching staff, you will be experience :

  • opportunities to network with qualified network specialists

  • structured training

  • shadowing and lesson observation

  • a chance to co-plan and deliver lessons

  • one-to-one mentoring
