What we offer

You can train to be a primary or a secondary teacher with Scarborough Teaching Alliance.

We offer the School Direct training programme, leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) awarded by the University of Hull. Courses last one year, full time.

You’ll be based in a school with experience in the classroom from the start, working alongside qualified teachers. During the course of your training you’ll undertake placements in contrasting schools within our alliance, to widen your experience.

Throughout, you will be supported by a school-based mentor who will be there to give you help, advice and feedback.

In addition, you’ll also receive support and input from the University of Hull School of Education.  As well as QTS and a PGCE, successful students will also complete two master’s level modules during the year, gaining 60 master’s credits.

Our training places are in good and outstanding schools in Scarborough, Bridlington, Whitby, Filey and surrounding areas.  All our partner schools are committed to supporting trainees to be the very best teachers they can be.  Click here to see a list of the schools in our alliance.

Many of our trainees have secured jobs in schools in our alliance following their training.
