Train to Teach
We offer a School Direct training programme, leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) awarded by the University of Hull. Courses last one year and are full time.
You will be based in a school gaining experience in the classroom from the start, working alongside qualified teachers and being supported by alliance tutors. During the course of your training you will undertake placements in contrasting schools in our alliance, to widen your experience.
Throughout, you will be supported by school-based mentors and alliance tutors who will be there to give you help, advice and feedback.
In addition, you’ll also receive support and input from the University of Hull School of Education. As well as QTS and a PGCE, successful students will also complete two master’s level modules during the year, gaining 60 master’s credits.
Our training places are in good and outstanding schools in Scarborough, Bridlington, Whitby, Filey and surrounding areas. All our partner schools are committed to supporting trainees to be the very best teachers they can be. Click here to see a list of the schools in our alliance.
Many of our trainees have secured jobs in schools in our alliance following their training.
We offer placements in nursery, reception and Key Stage 1. Students access the well-regarded advanced early years PGCE provided by the University of Hull, leading to Qualified Teacher Status.
We offer placements in Key Stage 1 & 2 classes in a range of schools, reflecting the diversity of the communities served by our alliance schools. Students access the well-regarded primary PGCE provided by the University of Hull, leading to Qualified Teacher Status.
We offer places on our School Direct programme with PGCE, accredited by the University of Hull. We offer a range of subjects, usually including English, maths, science and modern foreign languages. For the current range of subjects available, check our UCAS listing.
